Consent Architecture for Mobile Analytics

11 weeks · evenings, Bangkok time Instrument Bench tuition ฿28,400 iOS + Android tracks

A working architecture for consent-aware app analytics: the SDK stays asleep until a basis exists, events are named for revoke, and reports remain honest when opt-in is not universal.

Learning outcomes

By the close you will be able to:

  • Inventory every disk write and network call an analytics kit makes before first paint.
  • Ship a deny-by-default wrapper on iOS and Android that still allows identifier-free crash breadcrumbs.
  • Parse a CMP / ATT-style string once and fan out without copying advertising identifiers into product events.
  • Write retention clocks that a Thai controller can defend under PDPA.
  • Run a revoke drill across SDK cache, warehouse, and a BI extract within a stated SLA.

Who it is for

Mobile engineers, analytics engineers, and product analytics leads who already ship events. Counsel may sit in on weeks one, five, and ten; the labs assume you can open Xcode or Android Studio.

It is not an introduction to SQL, nor a CMP vendor certification. If you only need vocabulary, Field Notes is the lighter path.

Modules

  1. 01
Instrumentation inventory. Capture a cold start on a Thai consumer build. Annotate every SDK wake, including those hidden in application subclasses and pre-install kits.
  2. 02
Lawful basis on the launch path. Consent, contract, legitimate interest memos — what may exist before UI. PDPA language is used alongside store policies, not after them.
  3. 03
Deny-by-default wrapper. Implement the gate. Debug flags that accidentally ship are treated as defects, not footnotes.
  4. 04
Event taxonomy for revoke. Property-level deletion paths. Naming that does not imply a durable person when the basis is session-only.
  5. 05
CMP bridge. Read once, fan out, keep marketing pixels off the critical path. Written critique this week.
  6. 06
Identity without fingerprints. Consented keys, coarse cohorts, and the failure mode of probabilistic graphs.
  7. 07
Android and Play consent mirrors. OEM quirks, HMS mentions as a known gap, dual-SIM mistakes.
  8. 08
iOS, ATT, and in-app browsers. LINE and other WebViews common in Thai apps. SKAN is discussed as a reporting ceiling, not a magic restore.
  9. 09
Warehouse honesty. Extracts that drop opted-out rows. Metrics that publish “instrumented sessions” beside MAU.
  10. 10
Revoke drill. Withdrawal at a timestamp; SDK, warehouse, and BI must respond. Guests from counsel welcome.
  11. 11
Architecture note. A document your legal and product leads can both sign. Alumni ledger invitation.

Portrait of Nalinee Sutham

Nalinee Sutham

Nalinee led measurement at two Bangkok consumer apps before opening the Bangphlat studio. She still reviews production schemas for Stewardship Circle teams and writes the flagship critiques herself. Guest sessions with Marek Ellison cover European transfer clauses when a Thai controller uses an EU processor.

Informational tuition

Instrument Bench (this live flagship) is ฿28,400 per fellow, VAT handling as described on tuition. Stewardship Circle (up to eight seats plus one audit) is ฿89,000. This page does not charge a card. Refunds follow the refund policy.

Evenings run 19:00–21:15 Bangkok time, twice weekly, plus one written critique per fellow. Recordings are available for missed sessions; critique windows are not extended except as in the refund exceptions.

A real limitation

We do not implement your production wrapper for you. Fellows leave with reviewed sample code and an architecture note. OEM-preinstalled analytics on some Android builds in Thailand can still fire outside your process; we teach inventory and contractual pressure, not a guaranteed kill switch for every silicon partner.

FAQ

Do I need to already use a specific analytics vendor?

No. Examples rotate across common mobile kits. The wrapper pattern is vendor-agnostic. We will not help you evade a vendor’s terms of service.

Is the Android lab as deep as iOS?

Almost. Play consent and OEM kits take real time. Huawei HMS consent mirrors are surveyed, not labbed in full — several reviews mention this as a gap, and they are right. If HMS is your primary store, say so on enrolment and we will point you to extra reading rather than pretend the lab covers it.

Can counsel attend without paying a full seat?

One counsel guest may attend weeks 01, 05, and 10 if named on the invoice. Additional guests need a Stewardship Circle seat or a Field Notes licence plus office hours.

What language are sessions in?

The flagship is offered in English with Thai office hours (nineteen per quarter across the studio). A Thai-primary cohort runs when enrolment allows; ask on the contact form.

Will this make opt-in rates go up?

That is not the goal and not a promise. The goal is measurement that remains defensible when rates fall. Some teams see clearer prompts and slightly higher opt-in; others see uglier charts and fewer legal blocks. Both outcomes have shown up in Bangphlat critiques.

Notes from this programme

“We stopped firing app_open before the CMP returned. The CMP bridge worksheet was the piece our vendor could not explain.”

Pimchanok Varee · ride-hailing, Bangkok

Week ten’s revoke drill found a BI extract that kept opted-out rows for “completeness.” Evening pace after 19:00 is heavy if you also on-call; I missed one critique window and felt it.
